“My child is very shy.”
“They don’t know how to express themselves properly.”
“He gets angry and shuts down.”
“She talks too much but doesn’t always listen.”
Do any of these sound familiar?
Whether it’s expressing feelings, asking questions, listening to others, or holding a respectful conversation, communication is a life skill your child will use forever.
At Empower Kidz and Teenz Academy, we believe confident, kind, and clear communicators don’t just appear they are taught and nurtured.
Why Communication Skills Matter
Children with strong communication skills:
Express themselves clearly and respectfully.
Build stronger friendships and family bonds.
Are less likely to be misunderstood.
Feel more confident in school and social settings.
Are better equipped to handle conflicts and emotions.
Without these skills, children may feel:
Frustrated or ignored.
Easily angered.
Isolated or overlooked.
Misjudged or labelled unfairly.
How to Strengthen Your Child’s Communication Skills
Here are practical ways to help your child thrive as a communicator:
Let your child see you speak kindly, listen attentively, and manage disagreements calmly. They learn more from your example than your instructions.
Help your child understand that words can build or break. Teach them phrases like:
“Please” and “Thank you”
“I feel…” instead of yelling
“I’m sorry” when needed
Teach your child to pause, look the person in the eye, and respond after listening not interrupting. Practice this during family conversations.
“What would you say if someone hurt your feelings?”
“How do you ask for help at school?”
“What do you do if someone is being mean to a friend?”
Role-playing builds confidence in real-life moments.
Create safe spaces for your child to share ideas, ask questions, or disagree respectfully. Help them learn it’s okay to speak up, but how they say it matters.
