Children’s Spiritual Growth is a top priority for parents, and the holiday season provides a unique opportunity to invest in their spiritual development. When kids are not in school, parents have a chance to be intentional about nurturing their faith and relationship with God. The holiday period offers a valuable window to maximize spiritual growth, and with a little planning, parents can make a lasting impact on their children’s spiritual journey.
So, how do you maximize this period?
You should intentionally plan for this period. If you haven’t started planning, it’s not too late. Ideally, planning should begin well before the holiday season. Think about how you’re going to engage your child spiritually. This plan should not be limited to spiritual activities; it should also include other aspects like life skills and moral lessons you want your child to learn.
For example, do you want to focus on salvation this summer? Do you want to trust God that your child will get saved or baptized in the Holy Ghost and start speaking in tongues? Do you want to teach your child more about giving, Bible stories, or learning Psalms? Have a plan.
Set a time that works for you and your child. Whether it’s morning, evening, or spread out during the day, fit your plan into a time that works. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming; in fact, one plan is enough if that’s all you can manage.
Set a specific place in your house for your Bible lessons or quiet time. Having a designated space helps create a routine and environment conducive to learning.
If you’re a busy parent, consider enrolling your child(ren) in structured programmes like Christian summer camps. Look for Christian programmes online or on social media platforms like Instagram. There are many resources available that can provide a structured learning environment for your child.
A structured programme that you can enrol your children in this holiday season is our August Spiritual Discipleship programme at the Empower Kidz and Teenz Academy. The children will be taught different spiritual principles, ranging from Salvation, their identity in Christ, the person of the Holy Spirit, Growing up spiritually etc. In addition, the children will also enter into an accountability and spiritual mentoring structure from September 2024 to July 2025, during which they will be consistently monitored on their spiritual disciplines such as prayer, bible reading, fasting, journaling etc. Let’s just say that the children are set for a holiday of encounter and beyond.
